Lancaster County Detention Center
The existing Jail facility in Lancaster County was constructed in 1978. The constant overcrowding of the current facility led the unsafe environment of both inmates and correctional officers. The new Lancaster County Detention Center houses both men and women and provides the County upgraded facilities and enhanced ability to serve the mental health needs of inmates. The two story 118,923 SF building on a 13 acre site includes secure perimeters and 353 beds in 205 modular steel cells serving minimum, maximum and mental health pods. Of the 353 beds, there will be
- 81 each – 1-man cells (81 beds)
- 127 each – 2-man cells (254 beds)
- 8 each – double bunks (16 beds)
- 2 each – single bunks (2 beds)
The cells are configured with rear chase access in mezzanine arrangements with double stacked cells, day-rooms and exercise yards in each of the eleven housing pods. Each housing pod has an elevated control room using indirect supervision with enhanced security electronic systems throughout the facility to maximize both inmate and officer safety. Additional features include Administration, Officer Training, Locker Rooms, Magistrate Court, Video Visitation, In-Person Visitation, Vehicle Sally Port, Booking, Laundry, Kitchen and Medical areas.
